unmarked Jaguar XJ6
unmarked Jaguar XJ6
I don't know anything about Huskys or Corgi Juniors, so this is probably a very easy question! I picked up this yellow XJ6 partly because it's a really nice model but also because I was intrigued by the anonymous baseplate. Was this produced during the switch from Husky to Corgi? What's the story?

From the start of the production, Husky models were always sold by Woolworth exclusively. When the contract faded out in 1969, Mettoy took the chance to link the smaller Husky toy cars to the well-known Corgi Toys name by calling the new line "Corgi Juniors".
For a short time the models had the Husky name blanked out from the baseplate, and received a paper Corgi Juniors label instead.
Quick after, the Corgi Juniors name was finally cast into the baseplate.
This is how the sticker usually looks like:

So the sticker is missing at the baseplate of your Jag.

Thanks, Kay - really interesting. I suppose it was easy to grind the Husky details out of the mould, but a whole new mould would have been needed to include the Corgi Juniors details. Somewhere I have a dustcart with the Corgi Juniors label just stuck onto the normal Husky base, which is even easier!
