If you include the inner wheel braces and tyre shades, you will have...
Code 1.
Code 1A.
Code 1B.
As usual colour shades on a computer screen are difficult to show but 'In Hand' the tyres are different between 1A and 1B.

Nick's guide makes mention of a gap or an infill where the running boards meet the rear fenders. Is that the "inner wheel brace" you mentioned?
The car in the middle seems to have darker tires, especially on the left rear. Is that the tire shade variation, or merely a trick of the lighting?

No, what Nick is refering to in the guide is highlighted on my picture below.

On the picture in Nick's guide of three models baseplate details the first model (with grey knobbly tyres) has open areas like the example in my picture above. The other two examples have this area filled in.
The wheel braces I mention are extra cast ribs of metal on the inside face of the wheel for strength which run from one of the wheel spokes to the hub area. The very first examples of the 'Code 1' model do not have the wheel braces.
The darker tyre shade you mention in my picture is the result of shadow.

These additions to the wheels were termed "spoke braces" in some references as they run along the rear face of the spokes from rim to hub. Wheels can be found with none, two, or four of these additions. Mixtures of wheels on single models are common.

None

Two

Four
This type will not be found on issue 1 or issue 2. This is a later example of the Rolls, just used to show the extra braces that can be found.
Note the difference to the end of the leaf spring in the last picture.

Thanks, gentlemen...I see the difference now. The difference in the springs is interesting, too. I wonder if the spring's eye disappeared as a result of die wear?
