photos swapmeet Houten, Netherlands, oct 19

Post by matchboxmarcel »

Some photos taken at the big swapmeet in Houten, The Netherlands, saturday october 19th. It was a hectic day with a lot of crowd.
I was there around 7.45 to come in with a dutch dealer and help with his stand. At 10.00 the doors open for the public.
The biggest swapmeet in the Netherlands with aprox 5.000 visitors each 2 months and aprox 1200 metres of tables in 2 big halls.
Christian Falkensteiner drove all the way from Austria to atend and Pavel Sobol came even from the south of the Chech Republic and brought some friends from Prague. John Nijhuis had his succesfull stand with the latest Matchbox 1-75 models.
It was exactly 40 years ago that the organizer started with this swapmeet (although at another location)
I remember going to the currently location from 1984 orso.
Anyway there was a band in the public entrance this time to celebrate the party.

Very interesting for a foreigner like me, Marcel. Thanks!

What was the price on that full 1970 display, if you remember?

So, doing a little calculating in my head... just kidding, I looked up the current conversion rate... that's 2,069 USD. So assuming 75 models, not including the display, that works out to $27.58 each, or about 20 euros. Sounds high to me too, for a "bulk" purchase like that. Not sure if there were any rarities in there that might have made it more worth it, but I trust you would have known that.

Thanks!

Marcel, great photos as usual. Hopefully I will be able to travel more in the coming years and attend such swapmeets!

Do you remember seeing any Rover 3500's around the stands? :P

Not sure about any varations in this lot Alan as al boxes were closed as you can see on the photos.
However displays are very expensive nowerdays too.
In 2013 I bought a Matchbox MOY 1958 display which costed me more then the 12 models on it. In 2012 I bought a Matchbox MOY 1962 display which costed me more then the 16 models on it.

Thanks for the info on the displays. Actually, the more I look at it, the more I wish I had 2,000 bucks! It's pretty nice.
