Hi everyone,
I will post a wanted ad at the auction site too, but for now this site gets a lot more traffic so I figured I'd give it a shot. I want a few books, if anyone has any available:
Collecting Matchbox Diecast Toys (the 40 year book) (And no, I'm not spending $53 on it as at amazon, at least not right now)
The Yesteryear Book (I haven't figured out the best release of that one to get yet, and I'm not spending $100+; I'll wait until I find a more reasonable deal)
And of course, Stannard's Collectors Catalogue (I'll cough up a few bucks for this one; none seem to be available, though!)
Thanks, and anyone can PM me if you want.
Alan

Big Al, In the 'Lesney Timeline' thread, Idris indicated an example was available for sale.
I suggest a quick 'PM', might not go a miss.

Thanks, GHOSTHUNTER! PM duly sent. I had actually read that thread before, but being so new at this hobby I didn't know what the book was. Now I have a better idea.GHOSTHUNTER wrote:Big Al, In the 'Lesney Timeline' thread, Idris indicated an example was available for sale.

That's a good price for that book. I've seen it sell for well above that amount.Big Al wrote:Hi everyone,

Re: I want books!
I agree that $53 is a reasonable price for the 40 years book - it is a substantial and beautifully written book with many wonderful pictures, not to mention a valuable resource for collectors.

Re: I want books!
$53 that is not even the cost of a good model, and this book would give you more to look at, than one model. I am even temped to buy one myself.
As I bought mine with a certificate when they first came out, the certifiocate is still like new but the book looks 2nd hand now, through being looked at so much, even the stories on " Matchbox" are great, be a devil Big Al go and buy it you wont regret it.

Re: I want books!
I agree with kerbside, the '40 years' book is a good read, a great 'overall' look at the Lesney empire and can be a good reference source for information, depending on what you want from it, it is probably the most accurate account of all things 'Lesney' to date, but the informed collector will find a couple of mistakes, like some models described as 'Pre-production' when in fact they are 'colour trial' models, but a work of this nature is never going to be 100% accurate.
One very good aspect of the book is the production time-line, so for 1958,(the year I was born, so easy to remember!) it describes all the models introduced in that year in the order of introduction and the details or features on that model.
Good second hand examples in the U.K. can be found for around £50, every "Matchbox" collector should have this book.

Thanks to all! I've since realized that yes, the $53 isn't a bad price. Just cash flow problems for me right now, or I'd buy it from a member who contacted me. "The checks are in the mail," as the saying goes. But I appreciate the affirmation of the book; that helps make my decision easier when I'm ready.
