Red Duesenberg overpainted with Green

Can someone tell me what to look for to determine if an early Green Duesenberg (with complete light green panel at the rear) has been one of the models that has been painted over the original red color? I understand this was the case with some of the early Green models.

Thanks,
Bob

Hi Bob
From what I remember when you look underneath at the body locating lug/hook to the rear you can see the red paint, I do have one but it’s packed away at the moment.

As Jason says, the oversprayed bodies are easy to spot due to the red paint on the rear body lug and the front rivet as on 11a below.
11b has an oversprayed chassis component as can be seen around the sump area.
The tatty example in side view shows the overspayed chassis more clearly on the wheel arches.
Thus far I've not found an example with both components oversrayed. There are a quite a few models that show evidence of parts re-used in the same way.

Look out for the Y7 1912 Rolls-Royce black oversprayed Fire Engine base.

and the Y10 1906 Rolls-Royce with silver-grey oversprayed purple base.

Another one is the Y2 Prince Henry Vauxhall in blue. A lot of red chassis components were used up for these, and the most common model as you probably already are aware of is the green Y1 Jaguar which utilised old yellow bodies and chassis from the rejected "Made in England" based yellow models.

Rejected by whom, and why?
