39c Ford tractor with 8mm front hubs

Post by nearlymint »

Picked this one up recently, Nick makes a note of 8mm front hubs on orange models(found by Christian).
Model has good genuine axles so I am very happy . Bit playworn I know but worth keeping an eye out for.

Congrats Jason!
Nice model.
Playworn like that gives a first impression of authenticity (that then needs to be confirmed by checking axel ends, etc). ( and I concur, the axel ends look fine.)
It looks like it was played with for many (hopefully happy) hours by some child.
Enjoy!
Did the seller have a premium price on it or did you find it in a beater bin? (Or perhaps it was an auction?)
Kurt
Happy hunting!

Hi Kurt,
Auction win 75p plus the postage, I did add another steering wheel as it was broken but it still is complete with tow hook.
Just started looking for these hub variations and this was quite unexpected, there must be so many combinations to possibly find.

Nice find Jason.
I remember Greg showing his example a while ago so these do exist in small numbers but mainly goes unnoticed.

Please use a web hosting site (like photobucket) to store pictures so you can post them here, using attachments makes it hard to view the pictures when you have to scroll to see them. Seeing comparisons of models is hard to see with attachments too.

I agree.
Obviously these are rarer than the standard issue, but I think they are probably more hts (hard to spot) than htf!

Hi Idris i feel that these front big-wheeled tractors (both Ford & JD) are easier to spot with them being most unusual. The issue here is that most collectors are unaware of this oddity/variation as yet and so do not look out for them. They simply skip whenever they see the same old, same old common blue & yellow ford tractors and the green JD's (#50).I was guilty of this until i saw Gregs specimen (#39Ford) on the old forum a while back.
If one has a picturesque/photographic mind then finding these oddities or other variations quite easily should not be a problem.
Well,im smiling.... :)

I want to add to this that they are only easy to spot if they wear the narrow tyres as used on the 19d and 52b front wheels. They are much less easy to spot if they wear the wider tyres as used on the 49b, 65c, 72b and on the rear wheels of the 19d and 52b racing cars.

When I got my three orange tractors mentioned previously, I did not notice that the front wheels were unusual until I saw them side by side with my other examples at home.
