Warm water with a mild detergent. Keep anything containing alcohol away from older models with decals, the alcohol will clean the ink right off the decal film. Some name brand household all purpose cleaners contain lye which can streak and unevenly lighten paint (i.e. ruin the paint). Never use anything abrasive unless the model's value is ruined by what your trying to remove (then if it damages the paint you have not suffered a financial loss or ruined an OK model just to get a better shine, etc.).

Make sure you thoroughly remove all moisture from the model. A gentle blow dry with a hair dryer works well, but not on the hot setting!
