Hi with me being new to this hobby I am thinking of collecting Rolls Royce cars as I just love them. I know Ghosthunter collects Rolls Royce so it would be nice to know how many are out there. I will be collecting from Rolls Royce regular wheels, yesteryear and super fast.

Now this is strange. A collector named Kevin interested in collecting Rolls-Royce. Has my Doppleganger finally be found...

Kevin poses a question I have been asked many times, how many rolls-royce models are there...

...and the simple answer is, nobody knows!!

What this means is nobody knows the overall number of collectible toys and models but in 1989, Jan Moolhuisen after collecting for 25 years had amassed about 1,000 examples of rolls-royce and bentley cars of all scales and materials.

Another rolls-royce and bentley collector during the 1990's sold his collection and brought a real Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow!!

I actually stopped counting during the early 1990's when my collection was nudging 900 examples but would not be surprised to find now the matchbox models alone must be 200-300 models.

Concentrating on the regular wheel models of rolls-royce will of course bring those totals significantly lower and as an example here are the totals of models in my collection so far.

#44A Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud = 24 versions.
#44B Rolls-Royce Phantom V = 12 versions.
#24C Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow = 30 versions and shown here viewtopic.php?f=20&t=7550&start=10#p83019

But even with those 30 versions I still look at more examples at toy fairs just in case I spot one I do not recognise.

Kevin thanks for the informative reply to my question. So all in all there are quite a lot of different types and variations of rolls Royce and Bentley cars. I better start collecting now Kevin

Definitely Kevin as soon as she arrives some pictures will be posted but here is a teaser for now of the car I’m hoping to buy.

I think I’d look elsewhere. The base doesn’t match the condition of the body, with missing paint round the back axle. You’ll find better, I’m sure!

That is because some one played with it in the dirt or over rough ground.

Yes, and there's a surprise, the model is in Market Drayton!

The base has certainly been played with, probably outdoors, but the body appears perfect. There’s a seller in Shropshire who has been known to touch up paint. I can’t see any touching-up on this one, but the less-than-perfect base doesn’t say “mint” to me. The rivet also has more paint than I’d expect to see. I’d leave it and find another.

I agree with the comments posted already and having seen the rest of the pictures it is not a model I would buy at that high price, there are far cheaper examples out there but if you must have 100% mint and boxed then sadly a high price is inevitable but the one you have chosen while initially looking good is not mint because of the paint loss on the base.

Having said all that, it is your choice and we are not here to tell you how to spend your money but only to help guide you in a direction towards a better value for money purchase OK!
