Unbelievable waste
Re: Unbelievable waste
These people who did this need pubicly humiliating whatever drove them to do this is beyound me
they should when found be named and shamed.

Re: Unbelievable waste
Not sure about 'named and shamed' - they should get 10 strokes of the birch but all the do gooders would complain it was against their human rights. Countries have gone soft and if kids are under age they get stuff all, maybe a good behaviour bond and go off laughing at the law. At a minimum they should be made to pay the damage but probably on the dole so thats a waste of time or made to rebuild what they smashed. Just a bunch of scumbags.
Re: Unbelievable waste
Words fail me on this one as regards a punishment when they catch them and they will due to the public attention this has been getting...Lack of understanding and a total disrespect for not only property but the people who have put in the effort to build something like this ...As a railway modeller myself in the past I can appreciate the thought and love that went into these layouts not only great models but real pieces of 3D art as many many collectors on this forum will acknowledge .I am sure we can imagine how we would feel if our best and most treasured trucks, cars, and other models where trashed in this way....Good luck to the people who lost there work and I hope the masses of money that seems to be rolling in from the likes of Rod Stewart,Roger Daltry,Jools Holland and Phil Collins[All real stalwarts of the model railway hobby.] gos some way of releaving the loss and stress that this must have caused........

Delete it then. Didn't realise it wouldn't work. It works for me as I'm a member, but see plenty of "guests" on there so thought it would work.

although the donations are very generous the main issue is the many years dedication in building the layouts and rolling stock
I'm not a big fan of train layouts but do appreciate the dedication and skill level from the builders and would not be surprised if some leave the hobby because of this,
it must be sole destroying

Re: Unbelievable waste
Both Ian and Reg have hit upon truths within the model railway community. I would like to add that designing, sourcing the items, building and the continous fine tuning of working model railway layouts is predominately carried out by the senior members of the collecting community. Men that are of a mature or very mature age and many would have dedicated quite a long period of their lifes to the hobby and to see all that destroyed for the sake of a bit of fun by other, much younger males with far too much frredom and spare time on their hands is sole destroying.
The money will help but no amount of money can replace years of dedication, enthusiasm and hard work tied up in those layouts.
Not many of the displays will be rebuilt as I am sure the owners are now far too advanced in life to be able to dedicate so much time and effort into the displays so in general all those displays are gone forever.
I don't suppose for one minute any punishment acted upon the culprits will serve any purpose except create needless paperwork for the authorities invlolved, but community service while not sounding particlarly harsh will serve purpose as it will force the culprits to get out on to the streets and do something worthwhile with their sorry little lives.
