Hello all,
I like this forum a lot but only now i have a registered account, this is my first post
Was wondering if anyone have seen this version of the Y1 - Allchin, i have it for some time and knew the version with "Straight Wheel Treads" was considered rare, however i've never seen one with the "motor" painted black.
Also the front wheels seem to be painted red and black instead of just red.
I looked in the new Yesteryear book but it doesnt mention it, if anyone have any info it would be great!

Never came like that. Someone in the past has painted those sections with black paint, most likely a train layout person. You can remove the paint with certain substances as the Lesney paint underneath is very tough.

That makes sense.
What made me wonder was that this model was bought with an old A1 box (thin numbers) and the paint does look as old as the model, unlike other painted models i've seen.
Trying to clean it is maybe a good idea, to check if this black paint is also tough. Do you happen to know what substances can be used?
I do have another case of weird colors on a Y5, this time with a Brown folded roof. If no other records are available maybe it was also painted even though it doesnt look like it.
Would you mind giving me your input on it?

As Mick says, 3rd party enhancement. Worth cleaning the black off as it has ruined a fairly scarce Allchin model.

The Bentley has what we term as 'Riveted' axle-ends which makes the model a later issue than one with 'Crimped' axle-ends which by this time the rear cover was not painted or trimmed in any other colour than the main body which is always green. As it is, it reminds me of the Gowland and Gowland kit Bentley which in its painting instructions suggests a fawn (brown) colour for the rear cover!

Looks like black paint on the steering wheel of the Bentley as well.

I have used metho on cotton buds and just keep gently rubbing and usually comes off. It take s a while to soften up but eventually goes. There are other things that will also remove the paint but I have not tried them.
