Hi, Went to list this for sale and found it is not listed so I would like anyone who can help in deciding if it is a PREPRO or a REPAINT.???
It has a Gloss Base with Flat Head Crimped Axle and No silver detailing. Also No Web Bracing to Rivet Posts.
I can not see any tampering with the axle but I could be wrong, help needed.???!!!
Base Rivets look untampered to me but again ???? The back one is tight and the front slightly loose and as the picture shows the front is a little out of shape.
You can see some red paint in wheel arch and also a little spray inside on a few of the photos.???
OPPS don't know what happened to photo 4
You can see where the top has been rested on rods while paint still wet or while top being sprayed, on a couple of photos.???
OOPS Again
You can Just make out a little red paint top of windscreen centre post.
No Silver Detailing ever applied.
Here you can see how thick the paint is.
Looking forward to hearing any comments that can help me decide what I do Next.
Cheers Red
RW 32a Jaguar XK140 REPAINT.?????
Re: RW 32a Jaguar XK140 REPAINT.?????
First of all, welcome back! We've missed you.
That is an interesting model. Looking at Nick's catalogue page, the variations without web braces are white.
Regarding the sills, it would not be R&D practice to paint the body and then rest it on something. It would either be spray painted in the normal fashion or stood on something and then spray painted (which would leave those dents in the paintwork that go all the way through to the metal). IIRC, you sometimes get similar marks on models which were painted resting on, for want of a better term, a chain-link conveyor belt. Nevertheless, looking at the baseplate rivets, they do not look to be flush to the baseplate, suggesting they might not have been factory spun.
Looking at the front of the model, your photograph appears to show a pinkish hue around the front bumper, suggesting there might be red paint underneath, but there are two problems with that i) it's the wrong casting for red paintwork, and ii) it would be the wrong baseplate assembly for a red model.
Then there's also what looks like white paint speckles tucked away on the crevices of the letters on the baseplate. Could it have been a 'body off' restoration with the baseplate left too close to the model and so catching some overspray? If so, what colour was it restored from?
Hmmm....

Yes I thought a Repaint but the base plate in gloss black and FLAT head axle which does not appear to have been tampered with. How would they have repainted while front wheels and axle are on.
The Red paint and over spray is on top of the main paint work colour so it was not a red original.
There are lots of very small patches of ret inside of the doors and in corners of window openings but is more maroon than red.
I would agree with the front Rivet but not the rear rivet and I have seen distorted rivets like that on a few of my models before.
Hmmm more Questions than answers.
Thanks again for your input and I would say I can only sell as repaint so I think I will just keep it with my other repaints I have and plan to restore later.
Also the colour is similar ( OFF WHITE/ Cream ) to my Flat Black base which also does not have webs but has ROUND Crimped axles.
I do not know why some photos upload in this manner.
You can see more of the maroon paint.
Cheers Red.
