Hi all, did anybody win anything from Vectis today. I only bid on one model , a £100 was my limit, had another couple of more bids, it went for £520 in the end they must have wanted it more than me Pete.

There were a number of items I was looking at and was outbid on. One of them was a plain white Chevy Pro Stocker. I thought it was a novel little model, as I have the standard tampo print, and also one with no side print. Having one with no top print too would have been cool, but that went way too high (I think that was over £500 too). I also went for my silver Porsche Turbo with dot dash wheels. I had an opportunity to get one a few decades ago at a UK MICA Convention, but at the time I didn't care for wheel variations, even on my favourite casting. Now I do want wheel variations this is number 1 on my wants list for them. It rarely comes up. I was still outbid. I will get one eventually.

I did get 7 wins though. A total of 8 models, as one win was for a duo. But I could have gone with more, as a couple I was too late on. As I was at work, I still had to do work stuff while watching the auction. Occasionally I was busy doing something and missed an item I was looking at, and was prepared to pay more than it went for. Plus there was the Field Car in orange with tan roof. There were 3 up for auction, and I would have been happy getting any one. The first was at £70 and I dithered over bidding £80 and it finished. The other 2 went straight over £100. I should have done the £80 bid on the first one. But I am happy with 8 new additions and I only spent just over £300 in total after factoring in VAT, commission etc. I didn't want to go overboard as I do have 2 conventions I aim to attend this year. The one in Albuquerque NM in July is all booked, flights sorted, hotels reserved etc. I have also booked my place for the German convention in Leipzig but so far have not booked my hotel room. I am just crunching numbers at the moment to make sure I am not stretching myself too thin.

Your workplace sounds like a good place to be - are there any vacancies?

If you look at money I think I can say it is not cheap.
But as a collector I am very very happy that I was lucky enough I could win items at Vectis, not seen elsewhere.

As Marcel says, some items you won't find cheaper elsewhere simply because you won't find them elsewhere. As a collector, when such an model crosses your path, you then have to make a value judgement regarding what such a super-rare (or even unique) piece is worth to you.
Personally, on the few occasions that I have spent a significant sum for a particular item, both at Vectis and at other auction houses (and Ebay), I have had no regrets (due, in no small part, to my wife not having found out what I paid ). Given that some of the models are truly unique, I consider that what I paid for them was cheap given what they are and what they represent.
Having said all that, it is unlikely, but not impossible that you will get a true gem cheap at a well-publicised auction. However, at least two Members have accomplished that feat, so never say never!: every so often a cheeky bid does come off.

If you have plenty of disposable income then anything secured from an auction site will not really be seen as a good buy or a lucky buy as the money has little value, but if funds are limited the value of anything secured on auction sites means a lot to the buyer as money is more valuable because there is less of it!

His have used Vectis for many years, they seem to get a high price especially for the rarer models. I think you have to make up your mind what series you are going to collect. With Vectis their commission is very high at 24% Pete.

I'm a newbie at Vectis, I've recently signed in and I've won two lots from the May 15th Matchbox auction. I will post some pictures if I get the stuff, but I didn't get the invoice for the postage yet.
