For some time a little while after Windows 10 was introduced, the general concensus was/is, it is a load of rubbish!
I have never been a fan of it and only kept it on one laptop as I was the computer guy at the tower block for the elderly who I know had it running on their computers etc, but would not use it as my everyday OS.
Here...https://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en- ... =projectoz are some views from other users of Windows 10 and after reading them I strongly advise (as I have done before!), all of you to turn OFF the auto update function or else suffer some of the same problems.
BE WARNED, THE LANGUAGE IS STRONG!
Time to ditch microsoft?
Re: Time to ditch microsoft?
I too am sick of Windows 10. There was nothing wrong with XP (or 95 for that matter). Windows 10 is geared up for mobile phones, computers are taking a back seat.
I'm getting updates regularly, the last few updates have rendered my CD writer useless and corrupted my Epson printer fault finder. Not only that, but my Photoshop software won't run anymore. I just want them to leave me alone. I managed to stop updates once but they are now back again.

To disable updates with Windows 10.
Go to Control Panel.
Choose Administrative Tools and click Services.
In the Services window, scroll down to Windows Update.
Right-click on the process, left click on Properties and select Disabled.
Windows Updates will not in future be installed on your computer.
Well ... we shall see.

Re: Time to ditch microsoft?
I am still on XP,have suspected this, as USA based attack to force, upgrade which adds more spying,
since GOVT owns MS (made a cant refuse offer...told uncle billy here is x $billion take it and step out to save the world, otherwise, there will be an accident.!!)
and now many more than just GH confirm it will go global.
had many issues mentioned above including dvd writer/
cd drawer not even listed ,cant make back up copies of 175 pg MB list
and when adding a new program/reinstall (BC not working)or download, will turn it back on and it may be terrorising computer for several days before surfacing
suggestions...?

Please use a web hosting site (like photobucket) to store pictures so you can post them here, using attachments makes it hard to view the pictures when you have to scroll to see them. Seeing comparisons of models is hard to see with attachments too.

I still stick with windows 7 and apart from a recent drive crash it has worked fine. I always turn off updates as they are a pain in the arse.

Re: Time to ditch microsoft?
With XP officially dead with no longer any support from Microsoft, moving to Windows 7, Windows 8, is not ideal but far better for those still on 7 or 8 including myself.
Support for Win 7 and Win 8 has also been curtailed as Microsoft put all its eggs in one basket with Win 10, expecting it to be far superior than 8 and 7. Current versions of Win 10 are an amalgum of 7 and 8 (Win 10 came piggybacked to Win 8 as a free upgrade to entice users to uninstall Win 8 and carry on with Win 10!) but sadly the core code of Win 10 was just not good enough as a stand alone operating system so a long process of Microsoft upgrade 'Patches' started to emerge for users to use, to try and upgrade their Win 10 software.
Windows 11 is not now going to happen, instead Microsoft are jumping to Windows 12. It is going to have to be a major improvement over whats gone before to get back the enthusiasm for a Microsoft instigated computer operating system.
I use Win 7 Home Premium on an aging VAIO laptop. I do not install any updates or upgrades. This does for me what I want and is quite capable of looking after my hobby needs.

Re: Time to ditch microsoft?
I heard today that there will be no windows 11 or 12. Windows 10 is going to be it and only upgrades for 10 from now on. How long that lasts is anyone's guess, but that's the company line for now.
It might be time to start my "Bucket List."
Re: Time to ditch microsoft?
I upgraded a windows 7 laptop that I rarely use to windows 10. It was fine until I updated the windows 10 after a long period of non use. It is dead. It will not boot up, just a black screen. It gives the hard drive is corrupted message. My other, daily use laptop is fine with windows 10, it was also upgraded from windows 7. Go figure.
