Hello mcnair55, this at first seems to be a welcome move for diecast collectors and Dinky collectors, I welcome these models back onto the general retail markets, especially as they have been designed and based on the look of original Dinkies of old. Unfortunately, I fear many collectors will steer clear, once they find out that the parent company is 'MATTEL' and made in China. The 'ATLAS' branding is a little unclear as to where it originates from, but I understand they are co-finacing the project and helping to source tooling from the previous French Dinky range.

I hope they are popular and more old tooling is found for re-introduction, but a lot of the tooling from Liverpool has sadly been lost in the form of scrapping and reselling to companies spread Worldwide.

Regards,
GHOSTHUNTER.

I have seen some of the 'newer' French Dinky at a recent swap here and at first look the looked really good but on picking a few up they are very light and the casting is not that great - its like a cheap version of the originals.

As far as I know the Chinese produced Dinkys are nothing to do with Mattel, it is entirely a Norev French owned initative using only French Dinky models.I have handled the 1st 8 produced. They say China on the baseplate however aside from the too glossy modern paints they appear to come from the original French Dinky tooling - the Opel is particularly lovely model, every detail down to the nail groove in the opening window is the same as the 1960s original.I will end up buying the Opel I expect however I have no interest in the other models in the range released so far.....

We have this range in the Netherlands and Belgium for aprox 2 years now with at least a 40 models released.
They are nice and I know quite a lot of Mecano Dinky collectors who also collect these Mattel Dinky models which seems to be made by Norev.
There are even 2 wooden displays.

There are giftsets with superb boxes aswell.

This weekend there is the swapmeet at Houten. I will try to take a photo at the stand of a woman seller who sells this range at the swapmeet.

Maybe 'MATTEL' has nothing to do with these new Dinkies, but they are allowing their name to be displayed on the baseplates. It may just be because they still own the 'DINKY TOYS' name.

I've signed up for a mate in another country, and will have a good look at them when they arrive, personally I've got about ten years collecting budget still on my original Dinky wants list, so don't think I'll be buying,

In the small print they do acknowledge Mattel.
