There's a bit of a story to this one. The eBay picture was underexposed and out-of-focus but it was clear that there was no trim on the tanks and the wheels looked plastic. Nearly a week after the auction, a jiffy bag arrived containing a maroon, metal-wheeled lorry in pretty good shape, with plenty of silver paint left on the tanks. This one was clearly part of another lot that the seller still had listed. It was a genuine mistake and the seller has been nothing but helpful and courteous. Two weeks later I have this. It's not perfect, but these are quite hard to find or perhaps even rare? It's not as nice as the one I bought from the USA, but it's a darker red and quite presentable. I'm pleased.

Here is mine. It has silver paint on the tank, but the color and the thickness of the tank painting is crisply different like the silver trim on the headlights&grille, so in my opinion this painting is not genuine.

I think the reason the tank trim wears more than the grille trim is simply because the tanks are positioned exactly where little fingers would grasp the model. This could be expected to result in the kind of discolouration and bare patches seen on your model.

Here is the Red variation with GPW. Amazing to see the contrast between the two colors when shown side by side. Still looking for the Maroon with GPW variation.

I think it's really difficult to get the colour of this one right in a picture. Here are my three, which I'd say are red (gpw), dark red (gpw), maroon (gmw). I think the trim on the red one on the left is mask sprayed, but the other two are hand-painted. The middle one, with grey plastic wheels, has no trim on the tanks.

Peter, I agree with Hugh - this trim looks original. I think it's the only one I've seen with silver tanks and gpw - as long as the wheels haven't been changed, it's a very rare version. Perhaps we could see the crimps in focus, just to be sure?

Very nice 20a Peter, Congratulations by the way on the new baby, great news.

The 20a with trim on the tank reminded me of this example (scroll down page and also page 2 ) and one of the notes I made in my Stannard was that if you study the photos there is a hint of gold in the trim just like yours. What caught my interest at the time was that the camera properties indicate no flash was used in the shots from ozboxrox and yet in the photo of the base view the hint of gold does not exist on the top tank.Perhaps as a result of slightly brighter light source.

I'm really not sure about that gold-trimmed 20a - there's something that doesn't look quite right about the way the gold paint is applied, and the top of the cab looks like it has flakes of paint under the surface.

I had another look at the gpw example that Kiov posted at the start of the thread. On my Mac, it looks like the paint is metallic - that really would be interesting.
