7c Ford refuse truck

Post by DrJeep »

I was very pleased to get this one in great condition: it shows that even the rare ones are still out there after more than 50 years. It's the early 7c with the grooved toe. For the record, it's Nick's code 4, with the rear brace and the triangular corner braces, in the early box (this is its worst side).

Very nice find. I've lost count of the number of dodgy ebay photos I've checked looking for one of these :)

Dr. Jeep

Great model in superb condition :D :D

Can I ask what colour the plastic insert is in the orange chassis below the Grey/Silver container body?

Sebastian :)

Thanks, everyone. I'm really pleased with this one. It was a lucky find on eBay - the main listing picture just showed the box, but there was a very clear picture of the model too.

Sebastian: the insert, which I think is the suspension, is clear. I've also noticed that the base is numbered under this insert: this one is number 4. The plastic part of the refuse container is also numbered inside: this one is number 2.

Very nice Glenn.

Given that this is an early release, some are subject to bases appearing black (not painted).

What is the base like on this one please, as we have had discussions in the past on some of these?

That's a really interesting question. From the listing photograph it looked like the base had signs of black:

But I can't see this now.

It almost looks like it's a different model, but it's not - the most obvious sign is the mark inside the tipper, level with the rear rivet, which you can see on both pictures. The base is a little sticky, so I think the apparently darker patches must have been the result of using flash. Anyway, it's entirely silver without any black at all.
