Hi Gary,

Here is a composition photo showing the 19a driver and the 19b driver. (note the legs or lack of :( )

From Nick’s pages a pic showing the two types of 19b with without steering wheel shaft.

I also think the 19b driver drives a 17c AUSTIN METROPOLITAN TAXI at night and on the weekend does some Army reserve work driving a 61a Daimler FERRET SCOUT CAR as a commander 8-) :) .

Footnote- I do not have a beater of the 17c taxi to confirm the above with a clear photo with respect to both types of steering wheel being across all models but someone else may have.

Yes, busy and clever because he is often found facing the other way driving the 61a

Further to my comment about the possibility of 17c, 19b, 61a having the steering column version, a little research has determined that only the MG 19b made in 1958 has it.
Some time ago I saw a 61a with the column but the timeline would indicate it would be a post factory fitted driver.

Here's the taxi driver. He does look the same as the 61a, which I'd never noticed before - thanks, Bert.

Thanks for posting that image Glenn, great shot.

I remarked to my wife a couple of hours ago that it would be handy to see a side view of this without the body after looking at the top view shown on Nicks page. Hey presto you have come up with the goods.

Just shy of 41 degree C here in Perth today so it has given us a chance to stay indoors and enjoy some Lesney time.

Luckily I had an awful taxi that could be dismantled. It's a shame, as it's the rarer version with silver wheels, but it's been repainted badly twice and has two broken roof pillars. My other 17c has the same driver, with no steering column.

41C - that's some heatwave you're having at the moment. I don't think it's going to make it above 4C here!
