- A Few from Haydock today. The seller told me that the red fire dept standard vanguard is an early Mettoy (forerunner of corgi) with a wind up mechanism and plastic body. Any further info on this item would be appreciated.

Re: Haydock today
The seller is correct, there were two cars,a standard vanguard and a rolls royce, they came in various scales and some had diecast bodies, there were other ranges too, which were diecast and plastic,as far as i know only 2 toys made the corgi range, the cws commer, and the car ramp.
The vanguard came in diecast in red ,white and blue, plastic bodies were the taxi and your fire car,it would be nice to see others,
The one you have is the smallest.

The two small scale castings by Mettoy, a Rolls-Royce and a Standard Vangard. Note that these started out with diecast bodies but were later changed to plastic bodies late in their production. Both appeared in at least three different scales too.

A nice group of models. The Brits seem to have all the luck at toy shows and flea markets!
