66C Greyhound Scenicruiser SF

Post by SupraBob »

Hello all,

Unfortunately I have not figured out how to post photos, as in the past I used Photobucket, and as you probably know they now charge a rather steep fee for 3rd party hosting. At least it is too steep for me to pay for the few times I would use it.

Anyway, I have a 66c Greyhound Scenicruiser Super Fast that does not have the "Greyhound" decals on the sides. Careful examination seems to indicate that it never did as there does not seem to be any vestiges left at all. I cannot say for sure where this model even came from, as I was not buying Matchbox after about 1958. It is in remarkably good condition, although it has some playwear. So any opinions? Do I have something rare or not. Has anyone ever seen another without the decals? It also has the dark red rear SF wheel clip. I understand this is rather rare as well.

And, BTW, please feel free to offer any suggestions for a photo service that offers 3rd party hosting.

Thanks,

Bob

Greetings SupraBob
I find posting photos directly here on the VBD website works fine. If there are only a few and they are sized appropriately, it’s fairly easy.
Regarding your Super Fast Scenicruiser, you may get more feedback (or more knowledgeable feedback) from the folks over on the SuperFast tab.
Good luck! I look forward to your photos.

I guess I thought that this WAS the Super Fast "tab"! I also can't find where the moderator moved my post, so can't see if anyone had any information on my 66c. Nothing on the other logical thread on SF variations.

I did find Ghosty's old post on how to resize photos and post them, so as soon as I find my post I will attempt to add a photo or two.

Yes, same thread we are on now. So I guess it was not moved after all?!

The thread was moved from the regular wheels area (where it was originally posted) to the Superfast area (where it is now). The thread itself has not changed, only its location within the Forum, c.f. moving a file from one directory to another in Windows.
The exact location of any thread can be seen top left, immediately under the brightly-coloured "Matchbox" picture.

Well, since there is a "Lesney Matchbox regular wheels 1-75" area, I looked for a "Lesney Matchbox Super Fast" area, but I could only find the "Superfast Chatroom". I may be mistaken, but I am pretty sure that I began this thread in the SF Chatroom area. I certainly understand that is the proper place for it.

Anyway, I am still curious if my SF 66c with no "Greyhound" decals is a rarity that came from the factory that way, or if someone over the years removed them without a trace. Perhaps the SF version did not have the decals? The models I own and the ones I have seen in photos indicate to me that the decals are always worn away in the same way as the paint. My 66c has an unfortunate scratch across the forward roof area, but otherwise the paint is almost completely intact. It is hard for me to believe that someone would go through the trouble of removing the decals for some reason. I guess the other possibility is that a poor quality decal or an improperly applied decal could have fallen off as it aged. But close examination with an led flashlight and a magnifying glass does not reveal any trace of glue residue either. A puzzlement!

I would be glad for any comments from all you SF experts!

If it has a black baseplate and red plastic axle retainers this is quite an early example and it could easily have missed having the sticky labels applied.

Thanks for the comments Ghosty. As you can see from these images that I am proud to say I learned how to up load thanks to your thread in the beginners area, this is indeed an early SF version with the red rear axle clip. I guess the best explanation is that the day this example left the factory the quality control guy called in sick and went to the racetrack. When I first realized that the decals were missing I thought to order a repro set, but now I am more inclined to leave it alone. Perhaps it has some extra value due to being an oddball.
