Hi All,

I'm a new boy, so feel free to laugh and point. :)

Right now I'm starting to restore a Corgi 280 Silver Shadow. Does anyone please know a source for replacement wheels and jewelled headlights?

Kindest regards.

Welcome to the forum and what a great first question. There are modern day replacements of the jewelled lamps and a quick google should find a source. Regards the wheels model number 280 had 3 designs of the 'Whizzwheel' for full production models and 1 design for a short run of models, so I presume you want the same as those on your model already. I am not aware of replacement whizzwheels so what I would do is look on ebay for a cheap but decent condition Corgi model just for the wheels. You could even go for another Shadow then you would get some jewelled lamps into the bargain!

It would be nice to see a few pictures of what you are doing and while we have a section for member restorations here...viewforum.php?f=18 ...I think for now you can post them right here where you asked your initial question.

OK. I'm still at the dismantling/planning/head scratching stage. But here's the model as-is and dismantled ready for surgery. The windows are off-camera soaking in gin to get rid of the previous owner's bad smoking habit which STANK!

Thanks for the pictures which for better viewing I have resized for you.

The picture below shows a similar blue example along with it's earlier incarnation with 'Golden Jacks'.

Is the intention to restore back to a factory finish or to a colour and trim to your own choosing maybe based on an actual real car.

Right now I'm thinking of my own finish. Just need the time to devote to it.

In gin? Really?
Is that standard practice for restorers?

I have not used Gin myself for cleaning model glazing but can see it would be handy having around...Image

Here is a link to one supplier of replacement jewells...https://www.ebay.ie/sch/sis.html?_itemI ... PrRngCbx=1

The ones used in the Rolls-Royce are held in a plastic moulding before being pressed into their headlamp housings and I am not sure if this type are available.
