The very first issues had the label on the rear tipping body and no decal moulding on the front part of the body.
Haven't seen one in a long time and unfortunately, I don't have one to show.

Hello Charlie and AJR,

Here is a link to an early decal version shown by Dan and Antonin.

Attached is a scan of my promotional card of this model that shows a slightly different version of decal application with respect to ribbing.
It is also different to the artwork shown on the K7 New model box.

Another great listing Charlie.

Just revised the post and added the variation with decals to rear of tipper. I thought this was the first version but when I inspected the base,
it was type B with K-7 on raised platform. It had no vent hole under tipper, red hydraulic sleeve and no raised platform for side decal on tipper.

Hi Charlie,

The K-7 with the decal on the rear and no decal platform is a nice acquisition and interesting it is paired with the K-7 raised platform on the base and not with the earlier flat base plate. This is now the third one shown on the forum as per Antonin and Dan ( see my post above).
Antonin’s model shows all the same features as yours.
It is as though they corrected the base plate mould pretty early.

The variation 1 with the flat surface base plate could be from using old stock on the later and more common container with decal plate/platform.

With respect as to why they added the raised plate on the base given it was not changing number, here is a thought.
I suspect what has happened is that the flat base plate mould was corrected to the raised number platform due to the spacing of the model number. If you look at the flat base plate you will see the text cast is №K7 without the use of the space or hyphen.
I believe to conform to the majority of the king-size models most are cast with the hyphen between K and the digit as per № K-7.
Incidentally the small minus under the o is normally a dot.

There are some exceptions like the Foden and the Jumbo crane which are just cast as No5 or No14.

I would normally place the model without the decal plate as being first as it also has no hole on the underside of container and it also has the red hydro sleeve.
I believe the red hydro sleeve was only used on this variation without decal platform.
However the flat base plate is also earlier than any other production base plates and this is the first I have seen so to have it as variation 1 is a fair call.

Thanks for editing this whole thread, it is a lot of work but much appreciated to see it all in manufacture order.

The evolution of the decal platform is what I find fascinating.
The box artwork shows a rear section with hardly any strengthening ribs, thereby allowing the decal to be located on the forward section. However, when the ribs were added, the decal was moved to the rear section (a variation which was released for retail, seemingly in significant numbers). The advert shows an attempt to return the decal to the front portion by removing sections of ribs (which would have meant significant retooling because metal would have had to be added to the die or the die would have had to be recut). Finally, the decal mounting boss was added.
It seems odd that so many of the early, fully-ribbed castings were produced and used, when none of the "gapped rib" models seem to have survived to the present day.

Yes, all these tooling and casting changes get my attention.

I suppose the ultimate find for this model would be the pairing of the flat number base plate with the smooth surface tipping container section or perhaps as shown on the promotional card.

I would like to find out if the promotional card from Fred Bronner was actually done by them in USA as apposed to the USA pocket catalogues which were designed and printed in England.
The detail is different on the promotional card to that on the new model box and I wonder what this was based on.

I have had a look through my dealer catalogues (USA printed ) but nothing other than normal retail model is featured to shed any more light on pre-pros.

One of my nicer finds this year was to buy a mint boxed version of this model. All I could see prior to bidding was that it was a new model box with the white plastic insert. ( Charlie shows one with blue plastic insert).
I could not see much of the model but thought a bid was worth the gamble hoping it was a very, very early model. All part of the surprise.
As it turned out it was gloss base, raised number platform and decal on platform but the box and insert made it very worthwhile.
It also had me thinking just how many new model boxes were made and how many variations could end up in such a box.
I am pleased they did not persist with the plastic inserts, very difficult to find these without cracks or bits missing these days.( especially models like K16 Dodge twin tippers)

If you look closely at the end flap of the New Model box you can see where two rib lines look like they are rubbed out. I checked my box and it is the same. So it has me thinking that perhaps the artist did have a model with ribs to base his artwork on but did not include them. Maybe a smooth version did not exist ( ie until Jason or Antonin and their elves finds one 8-) :) )

I have been actively monitoring all the rear-section decal examples which appear on Ebay and, much to my surprise, they have all had the raised model number platform. It really is odd that the earlier body is consistently matched with a later base.
