Picked up the lot below off our local auction site, reasonably new seller was unwilling to post so pick up only limited the number of collectors who could participate in the auction and hence the price realised. Seller was 1.5 hours away from me and based on the single photo and the description - Matchbox toys. Most in original numbered box. Approx 30 most of the usual bidders on a lot like this stayed away presumably due to the uncertainty of exactly what was on offer.
I thought I would take a punt..... I didn't have much to do on a Saturday afternoon anyway so spent from 1.30 to 4.30pm on the road
Quite a few in the photo seemed to have box damage and missing flaps, but the Cortina and Merc looked to have good paint and anyone who has kept boxes for 45+ years must have looked after their toys, right?
When I picked them up the first thing I noticed was the box was an old shoe box, look at the date code in the top right of the price sticker "1/70" January 1970.....I bet the shoes even being "Double Life" are long gone.
That date pretty well stacks up with the cars in the lot: A couple of regulars, some transitionals and a couple of later Superfast.....The lady I bought them off said they were her brothers, she'd had them in storage for a long time and he didn't want them. Circa 45 years in the same shoe box, what an excellent find.
I gave them a bit of a clean and the results are below
I thought I would try the TinMan end flap trick to make the incomplete boxes square and worthy of display. Not bad for my first effort, although a better printer would have produced less washed out results.
So down to the models / boxes, more shots of both from multiple angles can be found at https://postimg.cc/gallery/277vyyrhi/

And the lot continues:
Girder truck could even have the original Lesney rubber band...the majority of which is hard but doesn't seem to have damaged the paint / plastic.
Somehow the hook has gone missing, plus the crane rivet was mis-struck..
Orange Red Mustang is in great condition, pity the box is missing a side flap and has some other damage...
There were some boxes without models:
A Lincoln continental in good condition, but missing an axle.
Plus some cars without boxes:
Plus some Husky's
Great Casting!!!
Plus a solitary King Size
Pretty good score I think, well worth three hours in the country, I'm sure you will agree.
Cheers
Dave

Hi Dave,
Nice little lot there.
The 44b Phantom V has seen a well played with life but a nice little keeper with GPW even without roof supports.
The King size K9 Aveling Barford Road Roller is a beauty. A much overlooked little bit of detail on this model and still intact on yours is the spinner knob on the steering wheel. Sorry to see the driver has lost his arm but credit to him that he is still driving.
Great pics.
PS love the Leyland Octopus Shell-BP tankers in the other thread, these look good alongside any Foden.
Bert

Re: Early 1970's Matchbox / Lesney lot
Great little collection with some really nice condition models. The real find is the #8 Ford Mustang in Red and it is a shame it has sufferd more than some of the other models but this does at least show how popular this particular model was (and still is!).
The GPW #44b Phantom V is an uncommon variation and worth having despite its condition but as I often say...a bad one is better than not having one at all!!
The Husky models are always nice to see and the red Jaguar is in pretty good condition so definitely a keeper.
I would also keep the shoebox they came in as it all adds up to a facsinating story behind those particular models, a story to be told over and over again in years to come.
Ghosthunter.

Regular wheel Mercedes ambulance with the superfast body and what must be its original box. A great find!
