Very interesting Ian. Initial thoughts it looks like a prototype for a model to be added to the Lledo range or the DG Models range (Dave Gilbert white metal productions) and below is the finished example of the same Rolls-Royce Phantom II 'Continental'.



Any other details like a date of manufacture so we can pre or post ID the model against the DG Phantom II!

Was apparently soldered together and the maker added his/her name to the base together with he1992 date. Thought to be a home built model according to the new owner...

Thanks Ian. I guessed the DBR was some sort of initial but was not sure if that was also a date of creation. So being 1992, this clearly has nothing to do with any prototyping for a DG Model and looks more likey the DG model was an inspiration for the brass model, as very few toys and models have been made of that famous 'Continental' Phantom II.

Hi Ghosty

When this Rolls Royce was released there were many pre-pros floating around with different coloured plastic grilles and lights. All bodies were painted silver but I never worked out why someone would go to the trouble of changing the bins which held the plastic pellets. At one time I had tan, black, white and yellow grilles but otherwise the models were standard. Have you any knowledge on this? As a rule it would not matter about the colour of the plastic used on the grille and bumpers as that part would then be silver plated, but these bodies were put together knowing that the plating process had not taken place.

Interested to hear your view.

It is possible to remove the grille and bumper moulding from this model and soak that moulding in household bleach to remove the plating effect. I have never considered any of these models with un-plated grille/bumpers to be of 'Preproduction' status. A known 'Pre-Pro' model has very short exhaust tail pipes which I would expect to find on any model with coloured (un-plated), grille/bumper mouldings!
