Unknown race car

Post by Malibu »

Hi all,

a friend was asking what kind of car is on the trailer.
The picture was taken in 09.1965 at the Nürburgring.
Does anybody have a answer?

Bit of a guess, but I'd say MG Midget/ AH Sprite with and Ashley roof conversion, although front wings look a little odd, but it was possible to buy an aerodynamic nosecone for the Midget.

Or it's a Sebring Sprite.

All I can add is that, given that the towing car is RHD, the car on the trailer is likely to be British-made (Huzzah!).

Rochdale Olympic springs to mind, although the rear looks a bit to long!

Tow car is a Vanden Plas Princess 3 litre. Doesn't help with the race car, of course.

Oh thanks - we thought it is a Morris Oxford Serie VI 1961.

Same designer, but a much bigger car, also sold as the Austin A110 Westminster. The Westminster version was widely used by the police. One of my father's friends used a 1964 Westminster as his work car into the 1990s. He was a farm adviser, so it went to lots of farmyards. You can see the back window looks flatter than the Cambridge / Oxford. The very large bumper overriders show this is the Princess 3 litre. There was also a Princess 4 litre R with the same body - the R stands for Rolls Royce, who made the engine. The back lights on this are completely different.

It's hard to imagine a B-series engined Cambridge or Oxford managing to tow a car as big as this to Germany. The 1622 cc engine was claimed to have 61 bhp.

I think the car at the back is a Humber Super Snipe. Now if only I could answer your actual question!

Here is the whole Picture.
Is ist correct that the race car in the front is a Austin-Healey Sebring Sprite?
The Humber was declared as a Humber Hawk 1957.
I´m not shure what is right.

With what looks like a high filler cap very close to the corner of the rear screen, it could be a variation of the Austin-Healey Sebring Sprite as an example shown below.
