75b in red with wire wheels

Post by Idris »

I was wondering whether this could just possibly have been a genuine example of the red, wire-wheeled 75b Ferrari.
I can't see anything obviously wrong with it, but the seller was TuT. However, although he has a bit of a reputation, I don't think anyone has ever accused him of outright fakery which is what this model would entail. Anyway, because of his involvement, I significantly reduced how much I would be prepared to bid and, in the event, it went for more.
What do other Members think? Genuine or not?

On the face of it I can see nothing wrong with it Hugh, however with TuT being involved you never know.

If the information in Nick's listing for this model is correct and models are listed in correct 'Time-Line' order, it should not have headlamp peaks or cowels, which if it has, it is a later body with early base/wire wheel implant.

Looking at the front of the model, it is difficult to say if there are cowels there, because there is convenient paint loss on both headlamps at the top portion where the cowels would be, a bit suspicious like these may have been filed away and areas disguised as playware!!

It could be a second Pre-Pro. Something similar has happened by Mercedes 46c, when the colour was changed from green to metallic blue. It would be possible that by Lesney had tested different colors of Ferrari-Red and this is one of the experimental samples. I think the red painting on the photo has a different shade as the last variation, which is bright red. According to the photo, the color is more dull red. The position and the shape of the steering wheel is a little bit strange.

The paint is definitely not the later Superfast type since, when that chips, you can always see signs of the lighter undercoat.

Hi,
Do you have any more pictures of this model? I would like to see them, otherwise I would like this picture with higher resolution.
Thanks in advance.

Thank you, I did not notice the link.

In fact, the casting of the model is correct, but has many indications for doubt.

Understand me well, the following list of observations is not proof that the model is not original, but only striking details that may have a different explanation but anyway need more attention with better photos or on the model itself.

- In my opinion, the base should be gray. This has not been proven, but it had been an advantage. At the top of the front bumper is probably something of gray paint to see, it can also just be dirty.

-On the place where the cowls could be located is no paint (and also only there) and the shape of the headlight is slightly dented and on the left too far over the upper part. There is also no groove available which gives the headlight the right round shape.

- This groove should continue in the lower part of the headlight, which is not the case, but continues in a 2-line pattern that belongs to cowling headlights.

-The base and interior are cleaned. This is visible on the inside of the wire wheels. The bottom has been polished and specially the rear bumper. Which is very difficult without leaving traces on the white tow hook and not touching the paint above it, because the oxidized paintless parts are not shiny.
(It is possible that it's been ultrasonic cleaned, but then you do not get a high gloss.)

-The front rivet is very flat, you see this sometimes, but not very often. It occurs more often with the rear rivet.

- What is worse is the paint in both rivets. The color does not seem to match the body color and it seems more like that it is limited painted than it is worn away. Also the gloss is unlikely high.

The color.
Can not be judged by only a photo, but in this case the color is dull because the model is not polished to keep the oxidized spots intact and the model to maintain the authentic state.
But if you want to judge the model from the photo, it seems to me that there is too little yellow value in the color, because the color should tend more towards the 8e Mustang red.

I hope that my observations can make some contribution to assess the model.
