We started to talk about the RR Phantom V in the Bentley topic.

So I think we could start a topic for the Dinky #198.

Kevin was talking about SA boxes.

Here you will find a short and voluntarily not complete box comparison.

The one on top is the english one. The one under the south african.

Note the car draw is really different. And note the afrikaneer text.

A few details for the SA Phantom V.

Known colours are:
Dark Olive Green over Ivory.
Light Grey over Ivory.
Dark Grey over Ivory.
Ivory over pale Grey.
Overall dark Olive Green.
Overall dark Grey.

These colours are not in the order of issue and the interpretation of colours will differ between collectors. One collector's idea of Ivory will be seen as Cream by another collector etc, etc.

The only interior seen is the Red moulding fitted with Cream, Tan or Black steering wheels.
The baseplate is always in gloss Black secured to the body with Three open head rivets (a small dimple in the top surface).
The spun Alloy wheel rims have the large brake drum, fitted with Black rubber tyres.
The back of the rear wheel arches have the sharper corner profile.

Because the components have come from Mecanno in the UK and probably actually cast during 1962, the grille/font bumper casting is of the 1st type without the slot below the front index plate where the leading edge of the baseplate rests on later UK models.

After the SA Bentley posts, I looked around the internet to see what was out there regards the SA models and found an article published in the UK model magazine 'Model Collector' May 2014 and it features Two very rare ducuments dated February 1963 and July 1964 respectively. The Bentey is listed on both but the Rolls-Royce is only listed on the 1964 document.
