Fakes and Fakers

Post by Idris »

Although we have as-good-as no rules on this Forum, it is important to remember that we are still subject to national laws. One of these is the law of libel. Jurisprudence has clearly shown that libel applies to the written word irrespective of the medium used, including social media.
It is therefore vitally important when posting accusations of fakery/(knowingly) purveying fakes that supporting evidence is also provided: “no accusations without a smoking gun”. This not only applies when discussing dealers, it also applies to observations regarding models shown by Members on the Forum.
Recently, there have been two incidents of accusations being made on this Forum, with neither of the original posts offering a shred of evidence for the claims made. Whilst I am prepared to cut newbies a bit of slack, the same is not true of more seasoned Members who should know better since this has been flagged several times in the past.
Therefore, with immediate effect, any accusations posted on this Forum without supporting evidence will be deleted. An exception will be made for members with fewer than ten posts who will be given 48 hours to add the missing information.
Please note that this is not heavy-handedness on my part. This is simply a measure which is necessary in order to protect VBD (and the poster concerned) against what could turn out to be very expensive legal actions.
