Ya, so sad.
Fords built in Geelong since 1925.
Designed and built world's first ute.
Holden (GM) built since 1948.
One of only 12 countries that could conceive a car from drawing board, build it and sell it.
One time we even assembled Mercs and MGBs.
Until 1965 we exported more cars than Japan.
Cheaper now to import from Thailand or Korea.
RIP
Also built world's fastest 4 door production car
Ford Falcon GT HO.

I believe the Toyota plant in South Australia has also closed and had a client in last week telling me his company has just scored two very large contracts in Adelaide with the proviso they employ locals made redundant by the closure of not only the car plants but the associated parts suppliers who now have no client base due to the closures and have had to shut down their businesses (read parts as in brakes suppliers, etc).
From what I gather there is/will be no car manufacturing in any Australian State from now on....
