6d Ford Pickup Truck

Post by Idris »

None of the NAMC’s “Catalog of all Series Matchbox Models” (second edition), AIM's “1-75 Series Regular Wheels” catalogue (second printing, 1983), Stannard, or Leake ("Concise Catalogue of 75 Series Matchbox Toys by Lesney" (4th edition, reprinted 2006)) lists any variation not already catalogued by Nick.Houghton catalogues all painted baseplates as coming in both gloss and matt black.
U.K. Matchbox did not examine the model.

There is one unlisted variation behind the front grille. There are three shapes of the brace:
a) two small triangular braces
b) one large triangular brace with one small reverse triangular brace
c) one large triangular brace with one larger reverse triangular brace

Just a reminder when cataloging variations, the grilles can be easily switched (white to silver or silver to white).
It might be time to start my "Bucket List."

I have to agree with Joe about grille swapping. This is one model which had a poor design for mounting the grille into the front end and over time with some natural shrinkage of the plastic, they can be removed without causing too much or any signs of stress through forced removal.

My own example brought for me as a Child did not enjoy a partnership with it's own grille for very long before it became a seperate part of the model.

There is another variation by front axle. The plastic spring pins for steering wheels could be:
a) small and thin
b) large and thick

No matt/gloss baseplate variations (c.f. Houghton)?

Good remark, but by my models the difference between matt/gloss is not so distinct. It is something between more/less matt. Is anyone here who has a model with really glossy base plate?
