Worth 50p each?

Post by DrJeep »

I think the main reason I bought these is pretty obvious but there are a few other good things here too, among the broken and worn. Sadly, the ice cream vans, Land Rover fire engines, taxi and the fire chief car all have normal black wheels and both Iso Grifos have a blue interior. Let me know if you want more detailed pictures!

You bought them for the regular wheel MB 9 colour trial red boat trailer!
The Iso's I thought the white interior was the one to have?
If you sit the black wheeled taxi in the sun long enough the wheels may go grey!

if only...

Sadly, the red trailer is the only non-Matchbox in the lot - it's Playart and presumably not very interesting (though if someone wants it, let me know!).

The Iso's are the non-rare (i.e. common!) blue interior. The taxi is quite interesting - it's orange, body 2 (Xs inside the real wheel arches) cream interior but with a label, not decal. I don't think it's listed. Correction - I've looked more closely and it's body 4, so not so interesting after all!

Of course the models are 50 pence worth each.
I think you bought it mainly because of the 26b with grey barrel.

You're right, of course. It's lost a bit of paint and there's a small crack in the barrel that looks worse in the picture, but it's definitely original and I like it.

There are some other nice things too...

Playart did make some copies of Matchbox models and I have a funny idea the boat and trailer were one of them.
Didn't notice the cement mixer. Good spotting. My prize regular wheels are all chipped. A far better chance I feel of them being genuine.
Unfortunately I don't have funds for the big ticket items which makes it more challenging and fun when you find one like yours.

these two? The Aston has definitely seen better days but I'm pleased with it in metallic red. The Lotus is good except for the missing driver.

I had a look at his other lots too - I like the Benbros 1904 Vauxhall still with its steering wheel, but I think the wheels have been painted black?

Well spotted Dave on the 'ARBUR' Truck Cab. Does it have smooth Brass wheels, a common feature on many Arbur vehicles. Not a lot of anything from this company turns up for adding to One's collection.

Looks like a Charbens Vauxhall in Yellow and a Lone-Star Beach Buggy on the front row. The Buggy is always nice to secure.
