Great photos! There are still a significant number of 1950s and 1960s gas stations intact and still in business around the world,particularly in less prosperous nations like Malta where I have seen about a dozen in recent years

Great photos. I remember all those different gas pumps. I recall the ones with the glass tank on the top ... you used a hand crank to pump the gas into the top, the glass "tank" was calibrated so you could measure the gallons. The gas then drained down into you tank. I also remember .25 cent per gallon gasoline.

That two stall Texaco gas station looks exactly like one where I started as a mechanic on German cars. The stacking car park is nearly identical to one where my father parked daily. A Firestone garage (very similar to the Goodyear garage) still exists in Downtown Orlando Florida (it's now a night club). I also recal the trend of having a little "refreshment center" which was all automated (all vending machines).

Today, a modern gas station is a convenience store surrounded by a food court and has nothing to do with selling or repairing autos. One of my favorite gas stations was also the Saab Dealership for the entire county. I hung out there as a (pre-driving age) teenager and learned much about auto repair in exchange for pumping gas.
