Photobucket?
Photobucket?
Perhaps some one can explain the situation regards a £400 a year fee for hosting your pictures .Or is it a scam...Another one?

Re: Photobucket?
There is a lot of talk about Photobucket across various forums lately as it seems they are no longer happy running a free account and want you to pay a fee for a smoother running account. I no longer use them so can not give definite details or hard facts.misterpop wrote:Perhaps some one can explain the situation regards a £400 a year fee for hosting your pictures .Or is it a scam...Another one?

My pictures are still up at the moment, but I'm not holding my breath. I'm considering using Flickr (if I can ever work out how to). You wont lose your pictures from PB, but will lose all the links posted on forums. It's similar to a ransom really. Pay up or lose out. I've had a paid account for years, but only on the bottom tier so that I don't get adverts. Only a few years ago, an ad blocker was sufficient, but they found a way round that and bombarded you with twice as many adverts until you had to pay just to get your uploads to load at a decent speed. The bottom 3 tiers of accounts (all the cheap ones for the little people) are the ones affected.

Thank's Bob.
On the back of that, I can now post this... ...one of my alternatives when 'Photo suck it' started screwing up my laptops.

Re: Photobucket?
Luckily I think I only have about 100 pics on there and so it should be easy to download them to my hard drive but I am desperatly sorry for those who have used it for years and have 1000s of very important referance files on there...Or is it me just being cheap?.

Photobucket is no longer free
Photobucket is no longer free for linking nor 3rd party hosting. All my previous links now dead. Any alternative suggestions?

Re: Photobucket?
I DO NOT not have $399.00 photobucket account. I have a much less expensive account and after reviewing the latest information on the photobucket web site, I see my cheaper account is grand fathered-in and hotlinks are allowed. How long they will grant me this exemption is unknown, but I'm still pleased with the service provided from the start of my paid account.
Most of the stuff I've read online is misleading. A $400.00 membership is not required for hosting! They have a $99 annual membership that allows unlimited hosting and can even bill you monthly if you don't want to pay annually (works out to about $8.00 a month). My membership is about half of that and I pay annually.
I have tons of photos stored there and have used them for years. Unlike most of the cheapskate complainers online, I don't expect something for nothing. The fact that they have hosted a huge amount of my data - for free - for so long is a big plus. If I combine all the years of free hosting, I'm actually paying very little for my data storage through the years.
Any and all problems the site suffered near the end of the free use days are gone and the site works better than ever. One click is all you need to hotlink an image. When I open the site it loads fast and my photos upload fast. No ads, so slowdown, no bull ... and no $400 required.

It might be time to start my "Bucket List."

Re: Photobucket?
Photobucket clearly is a top rate online image hoster. Its the way they handled the free account that pissed every body off. Its the way the free account screwed up laptops (pissing me off!).
They do not know how to manage their own affairs. If they go out of their way to provide an image hosting service, free or paid for, we expect an imgae hosting service which Thousands of users were getting, until some bright spark in management decided it would be changed and no more free accounts causing endless frustration at the loss of Thousands of pictures on uncountable blogs and forums being removed, many never to be seen again.
Good luck to all those that continue to use the services of Photobucket, fingers crossed they don't come up with some other hair brained scheme that backfires on us!
