Re: For Ghosty
Thank's Reg.
I have to correct the description. The car shown in the photo is a 1910 car, not a 1906 car and the location is not Beaulieu, Hampshire, it is Measham Motor Museum, Leicestershire but was opened by Lord Montague of Beaulieu, in 1963.
Here is a fuller picture. The 'Yesteryear' model was not and could not be based on the car pictured and in fact is not based on any real car, it is a totally 'Artisitic Lisense' produced model.
I do not know why they are taking notes and measerments of this Rolls-Royce, they already had the detailed information gathered from their #Y-15 model which is a fantastic representation of the 1907 Silver Ghost.
I know the image description is not your work Reg and the mistake has been going on for many Years, even in the 40 Years book, so it was due for correction!

Re: For Ghosty
Good info, Ghost-man.
All these decades gone by and I just now find out a major Lesney model has been mislabeled as an ought-six.
Real nice to have such Ghostly expertise for us all to benifit from.
Such a strange mistake. Makes me wonder how this serious blunder came about!
As to it not being based on a real car; I know RR's had MANY different coach builders, at least by the '20s or '30s
Probably not, but did they have near as many outside shops building Rolls Royce bodies that far back?
I guess my thought is, with some many one-offs, special hand built Rolls Royces, it is still possible to be sure no such 1910 Silver Ghosts to Lesney's specs
were never constructed?
Not that I don't believe you of course, I'm just interested in more details.

Re: For Ghosty
Hi Davie.
The car in the picture is of a 1910 chassis (with the ''LK 1910'' index). A coloured pictur showing the same car appeared in a 1966 pocket catalogue. The same picture appeared in the 1967 Germam pocket catalogue.
The Y-10 Silver Ghost is dated as a 1906 car on the new release letter dated 12-12-69.
The real car often called a Silver Ghost (the only official Silver Ghost) is dated as a 1907 car. The long gestation period of such a car from such a small car company at this time, 1906-1907 means production of the car was started during 1906 but it did not pick up it's famous name until after the car had been completed (historians saying not until it had been running on the road when it proved it was as silent as a sewing machine that it was given the name, meaning 1907).
Royce Ltd of Cooke Street, Manchester (not officially Rolls-Royce until 1906), contracted several coachbuilding companies for bodies as far back as 1904.
There are many cars with bodies only similar to the body seen on Y-10, it is after all still very close to the Y-15 Silver Ghost's body, just a bit larger, but not on a car as early as 1906 and definately not on a car called Silver Ghost before 1907.
The whole model is a mystery as to why it has a 1906 date and the 'Silver Ghost' name but is only a larger version of the Y-15 model but not as detailed. Had Y-15 not been introduced, then Y-10 would have been OK as one of the better Silver Ghost models made and the date would have been accepted as a genuine Lesney mistake!

Re: For Ghosty
A big 10-4 to that good buddy.
Or as you may say in English, thanks for the education and clearing that up!
Few companies such as Rolls Royce have such a deep, fascinating, and surely complex history. (Seems to me)
My head is so full of facts, specs, and such that I hope to take one of my books and learn more about the marque and it's many body makers.
