The Mercedes came in a box and has no car info on it. No evidence that it ever had an info plate attached.





I assume each model had a bespoke insert that fitted over the roof.

I've never seen the card outer wrapper. Has anyone any info on this?

No info regards the giftware type status, but they seem to be presentation models for the 'EUROPCAR' car rental company with messages like...GUTE FARHT meaning 'Good Ride'.

Having worked in the car rental business it's not un-common for promotional items to be given to good performing members of staff or lucky rental customers through a prize draw type of event. I have some James Bond promotional items from when Avis car hire was backing and supplying vehicles to one of the bond films.

Other than Bob's pictures above, I have never seen those presentation models before.

Like the bottles, cuff links, lighters, paperweights etc., etc., I would call these "associated items". I was only asking about the card outer box mentioned in the text, as I've never seen one.

Not a lot of forethought went into them. Why put a German car on a French base, and vice versa!

I am guessing the models were sourced from a wholesaler for the purpose of mounting on those bases so were probably new stock, giving us a fairly accurate date of 1982-83, so it would be nice if someone who worked for Europcar had some of the promotional material of that time showing the models and the packaging!

I don't know this model all that well, but I think a Black front seat is standard so any other colour if genuine must be seen as quite hard to find.

The front seat in the Y-6 Rolls-Royce 'Fire Engine' can also be classed as available in Black or Charcol, but this is not defined in the White book I have and the colour change could be down to lower quality plastic pellets used for the moulding.

A mint 'UK Matchbox' Crossley can still realise good Money.

The UK Matchbox model wasn't the subject of this discussion, but as an aside, they're one of the easiest of the "Code 2" models to find.
