Espewe. Various scales and materials from DDR.

Post by Fox »

Before CCCP went down, was the East Germany.
And they made some toys.

I had an important lot a few years ago and remember a US collector asked me for a piece he was looking for for about 20 years. So, it isn't so common.

You cand find a part of it here http://www.corky.fr/?page_id=1467 but let's have a look at the last one I found.

It's mazak and plastic made. Later, in Poland, Estetyka used the cast (somewhat modified) of this toy.

The model is based on chassis number, 71 KG, the 1917 Mann Egerton 'Barrel' sided tourer Silver Ghost used by Vladmir Ilyich Lenin as His Summer car. He had another Silver Ghost (chassis number 79 YG), for His winter travels (the Winter car!) and that is the car fitted with tracks in place of the rear driving wheels.

These Two models were originally introduced as number 101 and 102 in 1971.

With the model number change around 1972, new box artwork and a wider range of colours appeared on the models.

Model number 102 below on the earlier box design.

'ESPEWE' is derived from...SPW for 'Spezial-Pragewerke', German for Special embossing works.

The Polish 'ESTETYKA' plastic versions are numbered...#2315 and 1115 respectively and introduced during 1978.

Most noticable detail change on the plastic models are thinner folded hood on the tourer and a better more refined wheel rims.

A production fault on the plastic model has resulted in the auxillary lamps moulding being fitted facing the wrong way, as shown by the example in the picture by ''Fox'' and the trimming was never plated in a 'Chrome' effect finish, just left in White plastic.
