19B MGA Question Gold Trim

Hi All, I picked up this 19B today and want to know your thoughts. I do not see it listed in the Stannard guide or the Charlie Mack book but yet it appears in a picture on Nick Jones site but once again not in the listings. I did find one that sold at Vectis but am curious why there is no mention of it in the guide books. It is a 19B off-white, red base, tan driver (no steering post) and gray plastic wheels with gold trim on the front bumper, rear bumper and headlights. Let me know your thoughts and of any concerns.
Thanks, John

You didn't find this one listed because it's out of the time line for a gold grille/trim. The only (authentic) possibility is that it was from a bin of left-overs that was discovered (at a later time in the models production) and received plastic wheels.
Other possibilities are someone painted over or changed the model's trim, long after it left the factory, in order to seek fraudulent financial gain.

Nice spotted John. I think I have mentioned this variation 5 years ago (unfortunately the quality of the photo is not the best one). I can confirm the variation also.

All though the variation exists, I returned the model for an exchange of a few other models that I am after. There are just too many questions about the authenticity of such a model and all though it looks in top condition I decided to exchange it for a few other models I am interested in. I did note that the gold trim seems to be painted over the silver trim as it was visible under high magnification. I also noted that the gold trim could be easily removed by simply rubbing your finger nail across it. Any models that I have uncovered the paint tends to be a little harder and can withstand a simple scrape with the fingernail. I first noticed the loose gold paint when I was photographing the model. So needless to say I am still after a 19B with gold trim.

The finger nail test is something I have been using for a long time and sniffing the inside of boxes, simple but effective tests.
