Both the NAMC’s “Catalog of all Series Matchbox Models” (second edition) and the AIM's “1-75 Series Regular Wheels” catalogue (second printing, 1983) discuss the existence/absence of an under-bonnet brace on the offside. According to their variation tables, it is only found on models with thin steering columns. However, on the basis of the sectional drawings provided by Stannard, my conclusion is that the brace is simply part of the revised steering assembly and does not warrant a separate mention.
Stannard has as variation 12B-5 a model with 12.5 x 45 BPW. Houghton lists what I suspect is the same model (as variation 12b-7), but this time with 12.5 x 48 BPW. In both cases, I believe the model concerned is Nick's variation code 7 (headlight and bumper trim, d/h, r/a, 1.5 mm with bulb, with tow hitch brace) which he lists with 11 x 48 BPW. Can any Member clarify the situation?
U.K. Matchbox did not examine the model.
