Displaying Yesteryear Models

Post by mcornes »

I'm a newbie here just starting out and wondering how you display the yesteryear models. I have seen fairly inexpensive small acrylic boxes suitable for the 1-75 series and the early smaller yesteryear models which will fit into a 3.5" x 1.75" x 1.625" case and does not waste a lot of space.

Getting a custom size that is compact is just too expensive

The next sizes that are anywhere close to reasonable that I have found so far are much larger than the car and will waste a lot of space.

Any pointers would be appreciated.
thanks,
Martin

It depends how many you have (and which era) as to the best way forward. The early models from the 1950's to early 1960's are, as you say, comparable to the 1-75's in size. The models get bigger the further along the issue timeline you go. By the 1990's there are some pretty big models. I prefer cabinets with glass shelves my self, as size of model doesn't really matter then. Not too difficult to make the cabinets dust free either. also worth considering whether you want to display the boxes with the models as well, as the early examples make a nice display in their own right.

Hi all,
I use Beanie Baby airtight boxes in the cabinets ans stand alone. I lay them on their side and they will easily take a Dinky Supertoy, so even the later large YY models will be no problem, and you can fit the hanging display boxes in without bending the flap down. Not too dear on the Bay.

The Spot On field Kitchen in it's box easily fits inside, and it's dustproof.

Hope this helps

Chris - interesting concept... assuming I finally found the right item I was astounded at the price of $9.99 - 19.99 AND a minimum order of 50... at the worst that's US$1000 plus shipping! Hopefully you can set me right and show us they are cheaper than that...

Hi Ian,
Blimey that's mega dear! I bought 48 from the NEC Toyfair a few years ago, cost me about £75.00 if I remember, cheaper as I bought a load, I think they were about £2.00 each individually?
Someone must do them at a reasonable price still?

I would like to display them in front of the box, in an acylic box so they don't get dusty as I am relegated to the garage so I have some clear shelving running at the top. Looks pretty cool. I am not looking at the big ones, but like the Model T or the Benz limousine , ones with the high roofs etc
