14b Daimler Ambulance
14b Daimler Ambulance
The NAMC’s “Catalog of all Series Matchbox Models” (second edition) lists as variation 14-2C a cream model with r/a and GPW. However, all other GPW variations are listed as KGPW, implying that the treadcount in this case is higher than the normal 20. Can anyone confirm the existence of this wheel variation?
The AIM's “1-75 Series Regular Wheels” catalogue (second printing, 1983) does not list any variations not already catalogued by Nick.
Stannard lists a model identical to Nick's variation code 2 (cream body, MW, f/h, c/a, matt black baseplate, no webs) but with silver trim, which seems extremely plausible.
The same model is recoded by Houghton as variation 14b-2. In addition, Houghton's variation 14b-5 is the same as Nick's variation code 10 (cream body, silver trim, 9x20 GPW, d/h, c/a, with webs) but with a matt black baseplate.
U.K. Matchbox examined the model in vol. 6 no. 4 (Oct. '82) p142. No models not already listed by Nick were identified. However, Rob Newson does have two interesting comments. The first is that the baseplate started off as matt black, but gradually became glossier as time went by. The second is questioning the existence of the off-white, GPW, c/a model (Nick's variation codes 15, and 16). Can any Member confirm either of these variations (ideally with a photograph)?

Re: 14b Daimler Ambulance
I have mentioned it yet, just to remember. There are some unlisted variations. I am enclosing a photo of three variations with FC axles.
- gold trim, MW ø8,5x18, FC Axles, front rivet without braces, no roof cross
- silver trim, MW ø8,5x18, FC Axles, front rivet without braces, no roof cross
- silver trim, MW ø8,5x18, FC Axles, front rivet without braces, red roof cross

Re: 14b Daimler Ambulance
And another unlisted variation. The late models have something like strengthening brace on the rear. I have found this variation on the off-white models with DR axis and GPW ø9x20 or SPW ø9x20.

Thank you for posting this model! I have been looking for one for quite some time and it remains on my "wish list". Good to know that there are actually some out there!
