KS Hook Variation used on 2C 12A. 14A and others

While examining a new arrival I noted the hook on the K12A Foden Breakdown truck was different than that of another K12A truck.
This hook had a hole going all the way through the hook, while the other one had just a hole in one side.
Knowing several models share this same hook I got out what I had nearby and checked those models as well.
The K14A Taylor Crane had one with the hole completely through the hook, the others just on one side.
I then checked the K2C Scrammell Wrecker but having only two models available it didn't bear any variation.

I also noted that those with the hole in only one side could be either LH or RH.

Would like to know your thoughts as this is the first time I have noted this variation?

The safety pin is just to prove the hole is all the way through.

Good observation. I did read about this before, although I do not recall where. Did a quick check of mine (the one displayed) and this is what I found:
K2A Scammell Heavy Wreck truck (silver or gold hooks)
a. Hole on the left side of the hook.
b. Hole on the right side of the hook.

K12A Heavy breakdown Wreck truck
a. Hole on the left side of the hook.
b. Hole on the right side of the hook.
c. Hole going all the way through the hook.

K14A Taylor Jumbo Crane.
a. Hole on the left side of the hook.
b. Hole on the right side of the hook.
c. Hole going all the way through the hook.
