The square hook variation was a BIG surprise.
As many years as Lesney used the hook and eye combination it is amazing that they were still toying around with the design in 1967.

The variation of the base is also interesting as was the color of the springs. As to spring color for all models RW or KS it seems to run the gambit. I guess they just used what was available. Now I wonder if anyone has come up with a more desired color of spring color regardless of model. To me the spring color doesn't matter and is not really important, but I'm sure it is a big deal to others.

Thanks Charlie for another great variation report on KS models. Not only are you vastly increasing our knowledge your are also adding new models to our want list. Is that a good thing or a bad thing

A good collection. A shame there wasn't a yellow Superking crossover version.
There are other variations though ... pink with wheels all the same size and a really dark metallic purple, although shades may be different in the hand rather than on a screen or memory.
Me? I'd be happy with a few pipes  but this load doesn't look too bad I suppose.

Regarding the regular wheels versions, I have a scruffy early example, yellow with waterslide decals. My better example is yellow with stick on labels.
Would that constitute a variation? Not that noticeable in photo except that the decal has chipped and the label has a visible edge.

I would classify decalled and labelled versions as two separate variations.

I have a dark purple one of these (left one in photo below) .... it looks darker than the ones shown in photos 14 and 15 but different cameras can alter shades. I have removed the trailer dollies to keep photo compact and have placed it next to a mid purple and light purple for direct comparison.
Anyway, like the 14 and 15 pics, it has narrow 5 spoke wheels but one thing I have noticed, where chipping has occurred, it is pink underneath whereas all my lighter purples have no undercoat colour.

Recently picked up a pink version having forgotten that I already had one.
Both have the small front wheels but came with different pipes and the shade of pink is slightly different.

Hi AJR,
Nice clean examples of the small front wheel versions. The pink color tend to produce an endless number of shades
and the best way to notice the difference is when placed side by side. Example K38A Gus's Gulper.
BTW I like the variation in dark purple. Thanks for posting the pictures.
