Triang Spot On.

Post by starni999 »

Hi all,
My new years resolution was to try to add a few more Spot On models. I had managed 20 odd in 26 years which wasn't the best!

Here's a couple of lots I picked up....

The repainted Zephyr and PA are a couple of the only childhood toys I have left. The PA was a total mess, so I gave it a quick paintjob and a new grille.

That is a great collection you have put together (saying great because I can see a Bentley... , which always look good together. Spot-On are really strange, because for the period when they were new, they were bigger than their rivals (Corgi, Dinky and Matchbox), so were never collected in the same quantities, but they clearly were liked and many played with to within an inch of their lives, hence the general poor condition of so many. This sadly has put top dollar prices to those examples that are in good condition.

I hope you can carry on adding to them. The Bentley needs a partner, so look out for model number 103, the Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith.

Love the Spot On tankers in particular. I take it some of the trucks, particularly the Thames Traders have no branding underneath? I've seen a few over the years listed on ebay as unbranded or unknown maker but even then they seem to get spotted

Hi Ewan,
I was watching two AEC Tankers a few weeks ago, one was the yellow / white version, but I just wasn't prepared to pay £230,00 for what in effect was a pair of wrecks, with little paint and a split tank. I'll settle for restored versions of these if any come up at a reasonable price. I was lucky to get the Bedford artic tanker 20 + years ago, I think it was a bargain then at £110.00.
No there is no branding under the Ford or Bedford artics. I'm not sure if the Norev copies are branded, even they go for a load these days, wish I'd bought them when they came out.

Hi Dave,
You don't see many of the yellow boxed NZ Spot On's then? The prices of those over here are truly mad.

Hi Dave / all,
Great stuff mate, the Mini is a great find, it seems to go for really high prices now. I bought a new / old stock grey one from a Newsagents by Lucas's in B'ham in about 72 for 50p! Can't get a mint boxed one under £100 now it seems?

Chris - NZ made Spot Ons are as rare as hen's teeth anywhere... I sold a few for a mate 10 years ago via e*ay and got (on average) around US$750 for them (mint in mint packaging)... he told me he paid less than NZ$10 each for them!
