None of the NAMC’s “Catalog of all Series Matchbox Models” (second edition), the AIM's “1-75 Series Regular Wheels” catalogue (second printing, 1983), Stannard, Houghton, or Leake ("Concise Catalogue of 75 Series Matchbox Toys by Lesney" (4th edition, reprinted 2006)) lists any variation not already catalogued by Nick.
However, NAMC notes that early GPW can be either light or dark, and this is also reported by Houghton. In addition, the NAMC lists two colours ('maroon' and 'bright deep maroon'), whilst AIM notes that "the body colour of maroon comes in various shades which appear to be maroon, dark maroon or dark red". Houghton concurs with AIM, describing the three colours as maroon, dark maroon, and deep red.
U.K. Matchbox did not examine the model.

Some brief narrative and photo of this model from a fellow collector.
Per mentioned below, I have not seen the model with the GPW and light grey base/interior although it is in Nick's listing. Any out there?

Matchbox 17C Austin Metropolitan Taxi
Number 17C Metropolitan Taxis are attractive and highly collectible. This casting was issued in maroon, with a dark gray interior and gray plastic wheels; or light gray interiors with gray or silver plastic wheels. The variations with the silver wheels are more popular than the ones with the gray plastic wheels. Although pricy, the different variations of this casting can be found fairly easily. It has been mentioned that there might be a variation which exists with gray plastic wheels and a light gray interior which I have not seen.
