Thanks for your time & effort and the clearer pics Taxidad. The type of direct artificial lighting u use caused the black bases to seem greyish on my monitor.
Regards the 3-line Jag and the area i encircled. It is evident in all these prepro models bases that the text "Matchbox Series" had been ground off before full production.Im unsure about the reasoning behind this.

Re: GPW 28c Discussion
Are you saying that the three-line base is actually a four-line base with "Matchbox Series" cast and then erased? I'd always assumed that the situation was analogous to that of the 61a ferret Scout Car, where the baseplate was modified to include the "Matchbox Series" text.numi wrote:Regards the 3-line Jag and the area i encircled. It is evident in all these prepro models bases that the text "Matchbox Series" had been ground off before full production.Im unsure about the reasoning behind this.

Re: GPW 28c Discussion
The bases on all the ORIGINAL GPW Jaguars were never tampered with at all Numi, they simply never were meant to be released with the "Matchbox Series" line of text on them. During the pre-production colour trial and destructive testing of this Jag when they were using mainly GPW on them, it had to have been decided to change both the base script to include "Matchbox Series" on them and also to redesign the VERY EARLY radiator casting area that is on the very odd and possibly unique Nick Jone's 3 line BPW model. As Nick has shown us, his colour was also not that of the final release yet, but all of the other ORIGINAL 3 line GPW Jaguars I have seen pictured for sale through the years wear the proper released paint colour. Alan Wank had the only other original I have seen in person so far, and that was the common stock colour also.
You were very wise to read up and study a bit Taxidad, but Please do not feel alone or uncomfortable expressing your own collecting beliefs as you have defending that splendid 29 B Austin with its powder blue roof and trunk. Nick's original listing of the powder blue Milk Truck he had owned was spot on, and that model in fact brought me onto his Forum and back into the Lesney hobby. Later, Hardy and others forcibly sunfaded standard green Milk Trucks to a similar tint, somehow convincing the world that every single 29B and 21 with blue "Did not leave the factory that way". You and I are not of that opinion Taxidad because of what we can see in hand with our own eyes, so we must disagree. We prize these blue models as variations, and we agree that base rivets just don't change colours as sun exposure fades a body panel or 2.
On the "ground" bases Numi, those models also have poorly done wheel swaps and are out and out "Fakes" based on the original factory "Pre-Pros" that we have owned for many years. We have exposed a few of those Fakes here, and they are not part of the 20 + - originals that we know of. kwakers

That is also what I believe to be the case.kwakers wrote:The bases on all the ORIGINAL GPW Jaguars were never tampered with at all Numi, they simply never were meant to be released with the "Matchbox Series" line of text on them. Re: GPW 28c Discussion
Having studied Nick's catalogue page, I would say that those are the normal production, thick radiator braces.numi wrote:Ok,i could be wrong but could someone please confirm if this specimen has the thin radiator brace.

Re: GPW 28c Discussion
The model you have pictured shows the stock later radiator support Numi that is higher than Taxidad's pre-pro example. Nick's thin versus thick may not be the best description for the radiator support change here, but it is O.K. for now. kwakers
Re: GPW 28c Discussion
Hi Idris,it would be a great idea that we should move our posts to an older Jag thread or open a new one as we have already impinged into Taxidads forum.
Irrespective that many threads were opened regarding 3-line jags both prototypes & prepros,i still feel that we have not conquered the opposing factors that really identifies most specimens as being true factory originals.
It would be appreciated if members on here post pics of their specimens on the forum so as for us all to make determinations starting with the basics with detailed clear pics showing what casting differences had been previously noted and yet to be discovered.
I also believe that there a many "fakes" abound that looks absolutely "factory perfect".
I for one would like for the experts to show us the progression stages starting with early prototypes and further on the differences of these castings (incl baseplates, radiator braces, air scoops/vents etc) with clear detailed pics up until the current/last 4-line Gpw's.
We would definitely also need Antonins specimens, expertise and detailed pics showing the progression & modifications etc.
I have a file with pics which i had accumulated since about 3-4yrs but unfortunately have them in my external HD at Dads and will be able to contribute with pics once i have it in hand just after New Year.
Thanks in advance,
numi

Thanks Idris for this new thread, appreciated
In the interim, could Taxidad kindly help with posting a pic of his 3-line base for comparison purposes.Kindly only post pics with the same angle exactly as the one below with the light on the ringed area.Add a few if uncertain and use the makro settings on your camera. This will help us in our determinations which would follow with participation.
Thanks in advance.

VBD HAS BEEN UNABLE TO CONFIRM THE AUTHENTICITY OF ANY MODELS PICTURED IN POSTS BY TAXIDAD. THEREFORE, THE FACT THAT A PARTICULAR VARIATION IS DEPICTED DOES NOT PROVE THAT IT WAS EVER MANUFACTURED BY LESNEY, NO MATTER HOW AUTHENTIC IT MAY APPEAR.
