Hi all,
Here's an oddity that turned up for £7.00 (!), a load of unused Budgie castings.....

Image

The Leyland cab is for the Horse box, not the coal truck, as it has the two chassis holes, the second hole being fully open on some.

The Renault Fresh Fruit lorry cab.

The US Rental GMC body.

And, the Leyland Coal truck insert.

I did wonder if these were a white metal knock off, but no, they are the right weight to be original.

Cheers
CW.

I seem to remember reading that someone was in the process of purchasing all the Budgie tooling but before the deal had been completed a fire destroyed most of it. I think the main exception was the VWs which you can still buy new (in kit form?) on ebay.

I've read that too. It's in Rob Newson's "Budgie Models" book (an excellent read if you can find a copy!). After the company went into receivership in 1966, the tooling (from the Hoddesdon factory only) ended up with a scrapman who stored it in a Luton-type van whilst advertising it for sale. Unfortunately, whilst the tooling was in the process of being sold, the scrapyard was hit by a fire and the tooling was irreparably damaged by the combined effects of heat and water.

The casting i had were the police car ,a wolseley, there were bodies ,bases tyres ,wheels etc,a friend sold some in a shop then a customer of his came to my house and bought the rest, they were all new shiny castings, which i got from astons in dudley,i would guess they came originally from here.
