Chrome plated Euclid on ebay

Post by toysnz »

Anyone care to comment on this Dinky 965 Euclid Quarry Tipper Lorry Chrome Plated Shop Display Model described as follows:
"This is an extremely rare factory produced chrome plated model, a limited number of plated models were distributed to larger shops and department stores for use on display stands, this being a standard casting with thick chrome plating, please note this is done before assembly as there is no plating to axles."

I've personally never heard of the existence of such models but others such as Chris might be better informed than I... curious minds need to know check out Item 201659021032 - it appears to be an issue from 1961-1968 (issues identified as 3 or 4 in my list at http://toysnz.com/Dinky965-G_EuclidRearDumpTruck)

Vectis sold one earlier this year. I Know I've seen at least 1 other but can't remember when or where.
As to wether they are factory issued or not I'll leave that to someone who knows Dinky better than I.

I have personally held and inspected a 'Chromed' #651 Centurion Tank aquired by a dealer friend and casual guest of this forum and it seemed genuine to me at the time of inspection.

Hi all,
Got to be honest it's a new one to me. I'm always very wary about chromed models, as there are quite a few very good none originals out there. The only rare Euclids I know of are the red wheels version, which I have, and the 666 Missile Erector Green wheeled version that I sadly don't. There seems to be more than one out there so you never know, personally I wouldn't pay big money for one without some further proof it's original.
Cheers

It was new one to me also which is why i asked - I see Idris popped a direct link to the auction (thought we weren't supposed to do that?) so everyone can find it easier now. This one is priced WAAAAAAY out of my range and with no definite reference to confirm the production of such models I'm not in the least bit tempted - for which my wife is truly greatful!

My recollection is that it was offered as a BiN.

I generally don't differentiate between auctions and BINs - this one was a BIN or Best Offer... and is still available.

Yes... that particular seller used to be a source of good, reasonably priced items a few years ago but I think he went full time into the toy sales and the prices went up accordingly - I see lots of his items month after month at the same inflated prices... but I still keep an eye out in case something particularly desirable shows up!
