Collected this model from Vectis at Sandown on Saturday. Interesting tyres. I know Mick Flack has a Y4 Dusie with similar tyres. Any thoughts Kevin?

WOW, you do find them Bob.

How would you describe the colour, because on my VAIO screen they look like a dark metallic finish, a sort of dull Chrome plate. Date wise, I have them (in Black of course!), on models knowingly on sale in UK stores during late 1979 (July-August) in the last 'Woodgrain' boxes.

Are they hard or soft and what is the purpose of the finish except for putting them on fully plated models for the purpose of trophies or anniversary models!

They are the same consistency/feel as normal black tyres. They are what I would call "translucent". Usual sort of tyre, but lacking pigmentation is as good as I can describe them. Will bring up to Sandown in November if I attend/remember!

'Translucent', yes I can see what you mean, similar to those French Lalique car mascots. If they were just trying out a new mould (tooling), for the tyre, using a clear compound they can see any internal stress areas to help cure this problem...
