I am beginning to notice certain castings of early (a and b releases) are quite hard to find, and usually only return a handful of examples from a search or maybe a slightly larger quantity than a handful but with each one being very pricey.

Two examples are 58a (BEA Coach) and 73a (Leyland Hippo). Both were only 4 yr runs, but still it seems that more would be out there. Were they just unpopular or what.

I am down to 16 holes left in my 1-75 RW collection and many of these are HTF or very expensive.

I prefer examples for my collection that were contemporary with my being age 7-11, so usually that means the "a" or "b" model, occasionally "c".

These are the numbers I am missing:

2, 13, 19, 22, 41, 43, 52, 53, 55(DUCK), 57, 58, 61, 67, 71, 72, 73

Lots of way less than perfect ones in my collection, but at this point I do not mind...maybe someday I will upgrade my real favorites.

Interaction between Lesney and the retailers would show what models were selling well, those that were, were kept in production longer than those that were not. Distribution of models would affect what models were available. Put more outlets selling the Lesney product line in the bigger Towns, you get more of the same thing in the shops. You also have Lesney doing special deals with certain retailrs where a retailer may be asked to stock more examples of a certain model because of overstocking at the factory or slow movers.

All this now affects what models are becoming harder to find for collectors Today.

I've always found that some of the earlier "b" series models are harder to find. In particular:

8b, 17b, 18b, 27b

I also found it took a long time to build my collection. I'm still not finished after nearly 20 years...mind you, the parameters keep changing!
