The NAMC’s “Catalog of all Series Matchbox Models” (second edition) lists variation 24-3e as having BPW + hubcaps, with patent no., with tow slot, with extension. This looks to me like a cataloguing error since the hubcaps are from the start of production and the modified baseplate is from the end.
The AIM's “1-75 Series Regular Wheels” catalogue (second printing, 1983) does not contain any variations not already catalogued by Nick, and neither does Stannard.
Houghton's listing is difficult to align with Nick's since he does not list the boot hinge gap casting variation, instead listing the presence/absence of an ejector ring in the rear wall of the boot between the two hinge slots. What can be said with certainty is that his variation code 24c-1, with 10 x 45 BPW, is a a pre-production, and that the ejector ring occurs very late in production, with Houghton only listing it for a single model, his variation 24c-9 (chrome hub + 10.5 x 45 BPW, with patent no., with tow guides, with extensions, gloss black baseplate). More information is required on how this ejector ring fits into Nick's variation but, at the moment, I would expect it to be Nick's variation code 8 (although it may prove to be an entirely new code, matching Nick's variation code 8 in all but the ejector ring).
It is also interesting to note that Houghton catalogues his first production model, variation code 24c-2 (BPW + hubcaps, probably no patent no., probably no tow guide, probably no extension, gloss black baseplate, no ejector ring) as being metallic pink rather than metallic red. (IIRC, this has previously been noted by Ghosthunter.) This model will match one of Nick's first three variations (probably one of the first two). Can any Member confirm which one it is?

I agree, because it does not include the glazing differences, or the Two tyre sizes...Here viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2854&start=10#p48594 of which a third example model with them has now turned up.

I would be happy to list all of the 23 versions in my collection, but none of them are coded to Nick's listing.

RE, the Pink colours.
For clarity of the versions in my collection, it was better to class the very First issue as a Pink (light then dark), because a definite Red (Cherry Red), was introduced just after the base rivet became large.

If authors of those works did not have the Pink issues then understandably they would use metallic Red as their First entry.

That's probably a good starting point. Does it already contain all of Antonin's casting variations?
