Red Beetle Saloon with Wheel hubs?
Red Beetle Saloon with Wheel hubs?
Dear fellow-collectors,
Can anyone tell me a little bit more about the red model with Wheel hubs?
I had the chance to buy one today, but the sale didn't go trough because the seller sold it to someone else... sadly enough I had the highest bid...
Is it a rare piece or is it common?
Thanks in advance.
Greetings,
L-esney.

Re: Red Beetle Saloon with Wheel hubs?
The 15d VW Beetle was a standard SF issue. There is some evidence that this model was also made in penny numbers with RW. However, the wheels were identical to those used on the standard cream RW issue.
If this model had yellow hubs, I would suggest that it is almost certainly a fake.
Any chance of some pictures?

Hugh, where did you get Yellow hubs from, I don't see it mentioned in L-esney's post.

I could have sworn it said yellow when I looked earlier! #seniormomentGHOSTHUNTER wrote:Hugh, where did you get Yellow hubs from, I don't see it mentioned in L-esney's post.

My earlier post should therefore have read "The 15d VW Beetle was a standard SF issue. There is some evidence that this model was also made in penny numbers with RW. However, the wheels were identical to those used on the standard cream RW issue.

What we really need is a good, sharp image of the baseplate rivet.

Good rivet pictures I agree, or a hint towards the ebay site it was being sold on.

Hi,
this is the only picture that I have of the advertisement.
Since the lot has been sold for just 65 euros I don't think that this is a cause of fraude. (There were like 30 cars in the lot.)
So,... I'm just wondering if the red beetle is a rare model,... or not...
Thanks.

Nick's link is here: http://www.vintagebritishdiecasts.co.uk ... /xx15d.htm
If this was on ebay, can you provide a link?

This lot was for sale on marktplaats...
Re: Red Beetle Saloon with Wheel hubs?
Looking at the photograph, I strongly suspect that this model is a fake which was positioned at the front of a group of unremarkable playworn models in order to lure bidders in and obtain a good (and totally undeserved) hammer price.L-esney wrote:This lot was for sale on marktplaats...
Who was the seller? (There is a not very good Dutch faker active on both Ebay and Marktpplaats by the name of Eric Jonkers based, IIRC, in Barendrecht. This could easily be one of his.)
Re: Red Beetle Saloon with Wheel hubs?
Yes I know Nick...
But this guy called Martijn and he was from a different town. Of course it could well be a fake... in that case I will not be disappointed...
Nog I knew that I have seen a picture of that model before... among the pictures in your price and picture guide.
I have asked the emailadress of the buyer... so maybe I can contact him one of these days.
Thanks anyway!!
